Pike Glades sloping fields are great for meadow skipping/beginner skiing. Need some fluffy for this crunchy base tho! Power out here at the moment. Internetted via phone. The good news is that the porch temp is great for refrigeration. The bad news is that the porch temp is great for refrigeration (and not snow)!

Rights of passage for K's soon to be (we hope!) inaugural bc downhill. In this case walking (because there's not enough cover to ski) the planned descent and clearing deadfall and storm debris.

Some pike glades action this evening.

I basically had no idea where I was going and simply followed Ruby who I hoped knew the way. Cooper stayed locked in behind me in the skin/ski track.

Quote of the evening for K's first bc downhill experience: "It's more work going down than it is going up!". :D

Pike Glades came through for a successful single digit temps, low angle night mission.

Initial boot/binding checkout at home.

A bit bummed about the snow machine tracks everywhere. Part of the multi-use agreement for the place I suppose? :|

Day Two in the woods with K. We worked out a bunch of bothersome details about boot fit and transitions which tilted the smile/grit ratio of this adventure in the right direction.

One of the highlights of this trip were two "soft" crashes trying to turn in a tight/steep spot. Currently looking for more open steeper terrain to practice those same turns with less off-the-trail-into-something consequences. Probably could spend some time at Burke on East Bowl for this same thing.

Meanwhile! Thanks Dirk - pretty spot and pretty evening.

Gear collecting dust while this winter sorts itself out.

Went out Saturday on a whim to a spot where for the past 5(?) years someone's been plowing from the TH up to a resevoir. BUT NO plowing! Big mood lift! I guessed downed trees from storm damage kept them away and was at least partially correct. But who cares?! There's a mile+ of old logging roads that are open-ish.

Thanks for posting photos Bob. I was going to put some up, but it looks like my flickr account got swallowed by Yahoo! or something, and I just don't have the energy to deal with that stuff now. It's been a bleak season. Some snow coming in Monday, but will it be enough? We're headed to Sun Valley on Wednesday, which will be great, but it looks like we'll be returning to daffodils and road riding.

Hope Sun Valley treated you well, Dirk! Did you get a piece of the storm that walloped the Front Range?

Here's a shot a medic friend shared of providing EMS service to folks in the foothills of Boulder via snowcat. 4-5 FEET in places!

Saturday fun. Interesting that at comparable TH elevations, my favorite haunt in NH is dirt and the VT version is skiable with boot top depth higher up.

Sun Valley was seven straight days of cloudless skies and temps in the 50s. No real powder, but beautiful spring skiing all the same. I think we're going back next year.
